Captains Message

Since being elected as Captain, at the end of January I have had a very busy but enjoyable few months and I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Northumberland Executive for offering me the Captaincy. I would also like to thank my predeccessor, Kevin Cademy-Taylor, for his support and advice over the past few months.

The pre-season coaching and practises were well attended and supported by the Players involved, despite a lot of inclement weather! My thanks go to the members and committees of both Newbiggin and Alnmouth golf clubs for allowing us the use of their repective courses for the practise matches. Slaley Hall and Matfen Hall have been equally suppotive in allowing us use of their facilities for all the coaching sessions.

A special thanks must go to the four coaches, Steve McKenna, John McKenna, John Harrison and Andy Paisley, for their professional and enthusiastic approach to the coaching sessions. I am sure that all the younger and established players will have benefited from these sessions.

The early season match against the NJGA team was a very successful day at Tynedale golf club. With some good performances on both sides, notably Jonny Moffat halving his match with Simon Lee.

The North and South Trophy at Dunstanburgh was well supported by all players, with a very tight finish, with Tom Rowlands winning the event on count back, congratulations to Tom. There were a few other good performances, notably Mathew Webb from Bedlington, his pair of 71's earned him a County call up.

Following on from the North and South Trophy, the County side was selected for the match against the Lothians at Newbattle Golf Club in Dalkieth.

The team were all given new tops and shirts for the match, provided by Nike and embroidered with the County logo by David Caldicott. Nike also provided gloves and balls for the team members. Our thanks go to all our sponsors.

I was more nervous before this game than I ever was as a player! However, the team did us all proud, winning the match 12-6. All the team contributed to the weekend, with maximum effort, which is all you can ask for as Captain! Let's hope we can produce a similar result against Cheshire in our next game.

ORDER OF MERIT GUIDE

The Order of Merit is expected to provide only a guide for selection and presents the selection committee with information on player’s performance. This however is not the only information considered for selection to represent the County. Other results are considered like National events, US College scores, League results, North East 36 hole events as well as nominations or feed back from clubs both positive and negative. No points will be awarded for any event outside the categories above as there is no limit to where this could end.
The Order of Merit is designed to promote the Premier Events within our County giving a competitive platform for players to continually improve.
Kevin Cademy-Taylor
