County Championship Qualifying

Matfen Hall kindly hosted the qualifying for the County Championship on Saturday 29 June, the course was presented in excellent condition and we were looked after very well, a huge thanks to Nicola and her Golf team and Keith and the Hotel staff, your help is greatly appreciated by all at the County.

On to the golf, there was some excellent early scoring, on what started off as a calm day, until the westerly wind picked up and the scoring levelled off.

In the George Renwick Medal, it was former member Angus Buchanan who came out on top from Cameron Thoburn, by virtue of a better second round. The scoring standard was excellent with both players shooting a 137 total of 7 under par. Well done both.

Cameron Thoburn made up for this disappointment by winning the best nett, with a 3 under par total of 141. Well done Cam.

The 16 for the match play had to be decided by a play off, with Nicky Maddison, Karl Mossom and Adam Wright fighting it out for 2 the last 2 places. The sudden death play off went to the 3rd hole, where eventually Nicky and Adam progressed after Karl saw his par putt slip agonisingly by.

The match play starts on Wednesday evening, with 8 matches taking place from around 4:30pm.

Attached are the results and the draw for the match play:

We look forward to seeing you on Wednesday.
