The Northumberland Golf Club kindly hosted the County Strokeplay Championship on 8 & 9 June, on a breezy weekend.

The course was presented in excellent condition, many thanks to all at the Club for their help and support in the build up and throughout the event, it is hugely appreciated.

Onto the golf, there was some excellent scoring over both days in the testing north westerly breeze.

Saturday saw Harrison Sewell win both the Under 18’s Championship, and the John Henderson Salver, both of which are determined by the gross score over the first 36 holes. Harrison had rounds of 66 and 71 for a 7 under par total to win both events at a canter.

The Championship itself was an excellent spectacle, with veteran Andrew Minnikin securing his 5th Strokeplay Championship, winning the Presidents Bowl for his efforts. The scoring was sensational, with Andrew edging out Harrison Sewell by one shot after a briliant 7 under par 65 in the final round, to card a winning total of 12 under par. Well done to Andrew and commiserations to Harrison who agonisingly missed a 10 feet birdie opportunity on the 18th, which would have forced a play off.
