County Strokeplay Championship

The Northumberland Golf Club kindly hosted the County Strokeplay Championship on 8 & 9 June, on a mostly dry but breezy weekend.

A big thank you to the Club for looking after us so well and presenting the course in excellent condition. It is much appreciated by all within the Northumberland Union of Golf Clubs.

On Saturday there were two trophies up for grabs, The Under 18’s Championship and The John Henderson Salver, both awarded to the player with the lowest 36 hole gross score. With scores of 66 and 71, Harrison Sewell of The Northumberland Golf Club won both trophies, with a convincing 18 shot victory in the Under 18’s event.

The 72 hole Championship for the Presidents Bowl was a very tight affair, which went down to the last hole, with Andrew Minnikin of the City of Newcastle Golf Club edging out Harrison Sewell by a single stroke, winning his 5th Strokeplay Championship.

Andrew shot a fantastic 7 under par 65 in the final to card a very impressive 12 under par total. It was agony for Harrison who saw his birdie putt on 18 just slip by.

Thanks to all competitors who made it a fantastic championship.
